January 4, 2007

Zymes is pleased to announce that Danielle Nihan was named a Zymes Graduate Research Fellow at the University of California’s Department of Chemistry in Santa Barbara.

Nihan’s research is focused on coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) to determine whether coenzyme Q10 is truly nature’s ideal vehicle for electron transport in our mitochondria. The research involves the first syntheses of new quinone-modified analogs of coenzyme Q10. Nihan is also investigating a potential new drug delivery system for transporting anti-tumor agents, nucleosides, and other drugs for the treatment of various diseases.

Nihan brings a significant level of expertise that will support Zymes’ commitment to developing products and technologies that contribute to the well-being of individuals. She is pursuing her doctorate in organic chemistry at the University of California and has received honor and distinction at the University for her accomplishments.
